With the lack of any form of government based regulation of the locksmithing industry, it is vital that you look for an independently vetted, inspected and competent locksmith.
The MLA’s licensing scheme for it’s approved companies is the ideal way to ensure that a bonafide locksmith is being used.
With the MLA having changed the law on the vetting of locksmiths in 2009, where subsequent to a large campaign, debates in the houses of Commons and Lords, the association was added to the exceptions order for the rehabilitation of offenders act enabling it to perform standard level CRB checks on its members.
Add to this vetting (DBS check), the regular inspection of approved companies, including checking of jobs done, paperwork trails for quality purposes, insurances etc the need for every MLA Approved Company to employ a locksmith who has passed the MLA Qualification giving them a proof of competence, and the users can rest assured that they are using locksmiths of the highest quality.
So if you need a locksmith, then make sure you look for the MLA Approved Company logo and check they are MLA licensed by checking against this website.
