The Master Locksmiths Association work very closely with the Secured by Design who are happy to recommend MLA approved locksmiths, this is due to the fact that like SBD themselves, the MLA are all about standards ( MLA Locksmiths are all Vetted & Inspected ).
The MLA always exhibit at the Secured by Design training events, which sees hundreds of Police Officers visit the stand to get the latest MLA & Sold Secure handbook.
Secured by Design (SBD) is the national police crime prevention initiative. It is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, a police-owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives across the UK.
There are more than 200 SBD trained police officers and staff in Police Forces around the UK.
These Designing Out Crime Officers work with architects, developers and local authority planners to build in proven crime prevention techniques at the planning stage to reduce crime and keep communities safe.
This includes working to improve the physical security of buildings using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems that meet SBD security requirements.
SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security-related products in the UK. Whilst the Police Service itself is unable to recommend specific security-related products, SBD act as an effective gatekeeper and signpost people to companies and products that meet SBD accreditation.
More than one million homes have been built to SBD standards over the last 30 years with reductions in crime of up to 87% every year – keeping residents safe and reducing demand on police forces.
